Projects

Urban design draws together the many strands of place-making, environmental stewardship, social equity and economic viability into the creation.

Thematic Area 1:

Environment and Climate Change

NAYODE has worked with in-school and out of school youth from Traditional Authority Symon in Neno district from the villages of Chikapa, Ngaiyaye, Tchenga, Moffat, Mwingitsa, Ngwenyama, Kamdzandi, and Kanono, to implement land restoration, SRH, Transparency and accountability and youth economic empowerment projects. From 2014 to 2018 NAYODE has been implementing land restoration projects with support from Vale logistics. Its also implemented an environmental conservation project titled Nkhalango Yathu project from 2012 to 2014 with support from United Nations Development Program under GEF small grants program. NAYODE is also an accredited member of United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).

Thematic Area 2:

Health/Nutrition

Between 2015 and 2016, NAYODE implemented one HIV project promoting HIV testing and treatment for children under the age 14 with support from Management Sciences for Health. NAYODE also implemented a project titled enhancing youth friendly health services and sexual and reproductive health via social accountability with support from Tilitonse foundation.

Thematic Area 3:

Youth Development

NAYODE has been advocating for inclusion of the youth in decision making structures such as Village Development Committees (VDCs) and Area Development Committees (ADCs) in Neno District. As a result of advocacy in 2021-2022, NAYODE has also advocated for young people, women and persons with disabilities being engaged in entrepreneurial activities through the Agricultural Commercialization Program (AGCOM) and has managed to set-up a poultry production facility worth 138,000 Dollars where 60 youth are actively engaged in poultry farming as one way of empowering them economically. Despite these initiatives, economic opportunities are still limited as such young people have been migrating to urban areas in search for greener pastures.

Thematic Area 4:

Child labour, Trafficking and Marriage

NAYODE managed to withdraw 32 children from forced labor; however, due to lack of financial support, the withdrawn children went back to work.

Thematic Area 5:

Governance

Through different interventions YOUTH and marginalized groups in Neno are now actively participating in developmental activities. NAYODE is also increasing youth participation in demanding accountability and transparency of decentralized development funds through tracking and monitoring of development projects .
